JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are on course to meet each other in the final of the Nedbank Cup on 1 June, after they were kept apart in the draw for the semi-finals.

Making it through to the showpiece event isn’t a foregone conclusion for either of those clubs, however, as Sundowns will have the task of getting past Stellenbosch Football Club (FC).

Stellies extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 21 matches after they inflicted a 4-0 win over SuperSport United in their quarterfinal encounter.

The Cape Winelands side is in the middle of their most successful season in their 8-year, history and will be chasing a second trophy this season after their triumph in the Carling Knockout in December.

Coach Steven Barker said their appetite to win more silverware increased since getting that first taste.

“The joy and recognition, and getting a trophy and medals, and all the accolades that come with it was a special time for the club, and for the players in particular. I believe that the feeling they had during the Carling Cup run has inspired them to chase more trophies,” Barker said in the lead-up to the quarters.

The other semi-final will see Chippa United hosting Orlando Pirates. The Chilli Boys were the last team to book their place in the last four with a 2-0 win over TS Galaxy, with goals from Eva Nga and Roscoe Pietersen.

They’ll take on a free-scoring Buccaneers outfit that beat AmaZulu 4-2 and have now scored a jaw-dropping 14 goals in their three matches in the competitions.

The dates and venues for the semi-finals have yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the Mbombela Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for the final on 1 June.
