TONGAAT - The family of slain KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police sergeant Sibongiseni Khoza dismissed claims suggesting that officers target suspected criminals just to kill them.

Khoza was shot and killed in the line of duty on Good Friday in the Sundumbili area, in northern KZN. He was laid to rest in Tongaat on Saturday.

Khoza's family's comments come after police officers killed nine suspected criminals in the west of Durban last week.

The family believes in most instances, it’s a situation like theirs where officers become targets to suspected criminals.

Family spokesperson Bonginkosi Khoza said what happened to his brother still has the family stunned.

“If you look at our situation and others, it means criminals get excited when they do such things in order to get away with crime.”

He expressed gratitude to the police for having given his brother a fitting funeral.
