Expect longer response times to service requests as bad weather set to hit Mother City, CoCT warns

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has warned residents that possible strong winds and rain over the weekend could lead to an increase in service requests related to weather damage and longer power outages.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) on Friday issued an advisory outlining potential high winds and rain over the next few days.
"While we hope the expected inclement weather is not severe and will not have a big impact on electricity services, during episodes of bad weather there is a risk of increased damage to electrical infrastructure," said the City's mayoral committee member for energy Beverley van Reenen.

Van Reenen said damaged infrastructure also takes longer to repair.
"If heavy showers and high winds are experienced, it may also impact the time that it takes teams to attend to outages as they can only attend to electrical work once weather conditions improve and it is safe to do so."
The city has urged residents to use one channel when reporting faults to limit delays.
