JOHANNESBURG - Mmusi Maimane's political party has announced Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster as its Gauteng premier candidate.

Build One South Africa (BOSA) made the announcement in Soweto on Tuesday morning.

The party said Hlazo-Webster would lead BOSA's campaign to form a new government in what the party calls the economic heartland of South Africa (SA).

Hlazo-Webster is the co-founder and deputy leader of BOSA, as well as founder of the SA Women's Commission, which assembles women from all walks of life to collaborate in contributing to change in the country.

Earlier on Tuesday, Maimane told Eyewitness News that Gauteng was a strategic province in realising the party's hopes of gaining more votes in the upcoming elections.

"I think whoever becomes premier of Gauteng, let’s fix our municipalities. Joburg cannot function without water. We have these issues in Hammanskraal, Vaal and Emfuleni. Let’s make sure our municipalities work well and that’s how people are safe and that’s how we can make Gauteng a province that can be great."
