DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police say they are investigating the murders of two bodyguards who were shot and killed at the uMhlathuze Local Municipality offices in Richard’s Bay on Thursday morning.

It's believed the pair were protecting two city officials.

Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, said the group of bodyguards were waiting outside the building when the incident happened.

"Information at police disposal at this stage indicates that an off-duty bodyguard shot and fatally wounded another bodyguard. The suspect was also shot and fatally wounded by another bodyguard colleague of the first victim."

Netshiunda said the motive of the incident was unclear at this stage.

"Investigations will be instituted to establish what could have been the motive for the shooting."
