CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to make his final appearance before the National Assembly this week to answer a last round of questions before the end of this parliamentary term.

The house will this week also look to pass a bill that will overhaul the country’s State security and intelligence services.

Years in the offing, the National Assembly is this week set to pass the so-called spy bill, just four months since it was introduced.

It will de-establish the State Security Agency, creating two separate foreign and domestic intelligence agencies instead, and introduce vetting requirements for people who want to do business with the State.

The long-awaited Expropriation Bill that will make provision for property to be expropriated for public purpose, even without compensation, is also set to pass through its final hoop in parliament this week.

The Expropriation Bill has been before Parliament for over three years and a final set of amendments is set to be put before the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) for approval.

The NCOP will also consider the Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Bill - which makes provision for the establishment of a gender-based violence council.

On Tuesday, Ramaphosa will face a set of six prepared questions through which he is expected to provide an update on a 2018 promise to conduct lifestyle audits on his executive.

The National Assembly will also reflect on 30 years of human rights through a debate on Tuesday, ahead of Thursday’s commemoration.
