Hill-Lewis urged Capetonians to come out and support the riders as they make their way around the city.

"I'll be there too on my bike, and I cannot wait to see and meet some of the cyclists who come together to make this such a unique event. Not only is the Cape Town Cycle Tour great for the cycling community, but it also does wonderful things for our local economy here in Cape Town and it shows off our city in the best way to the world."

Meanwhile, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde thanked Capetonians whose homes and businesses are set to be affected by widespread road closures on the day.

"But they know this is good for the city and our province, so thank you very much for your tolerance, and then of course to everyone who's going to be around the route cheering everybody on."
