A City Power feeder board experienced issues during the week at Rand Water's Eikenhof Pumpstation, leaving many parts in the metro with no supply.

Residents in parts of Gauteng and North West are grappling with water outages following the explosion of the Eikenhof pump station's feeder board in Johannesburg after being struck by lightning over the weekend.

The massive power trip left some parts of the city and Rustenburg without water, with Rand Water saying the pump station will likely take 48 hours to recover.

During Wednesday’s joint briefing, Johannesburg Water clarified that Sandton's water outages are not related to this power outage, adding that residents will have running water from Thursday.

Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane said water supply to Bronkhorstspruit and surrounding areas is expected to improve from next Wednesday after a pump at the water treatment broke down.
