Ramaphosa removes Hlophe and Motata as High Court judges

CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially remove John Hlophe and Nkola Motata as judges of the high court.

This follows a Parliamentary impeachment vote last month on two separate charges of gross misconduct.

They are the first judges to be removed from the bench in the democratic era.

Based in the Western Cape, Hlophe was the longest-serving judge president of a high court.

Motata served in the Gauteng division before his retirement in 2018.
