Cop nabbed for allegedly raping woman in holding cells due in court

CAPE TOWN - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a police constable on rape allegations in Cistrusdal, in the Western Cape.
The IPID said the complainant, who was detained in a holding cell, laid a charge with an officer who reported for duty the next morning.

The victim had been detained at the Citrusdal police station for alleged assault when the incident happened.
"The police constable allegedly went into the holding cell and raped the complainant, and the officer was detained at Piketberg," said IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping.
"He will appear in the Clanwilliam Magistrates Court on Monday, 4 March 2024."
