JOHANNESBURG - Court documents have revealed that Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane’s alleged killers were arrested as a result of a trail of evidence linking them to other crimes.

The pair was shot and killed in February last year, outside a Durban restaurant on Florida Road in what police say was a hit.

Last week, authorities revealed that AKA was targeted and followed from the airport until his murder, and that Motsoane was a casualty of the hit.

Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the murders. Five of them appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The Sunday Times is reporting that four of the suspects are brothers from a notorious and powerful family.

They are reportedly feared by community members in Ocilwane - on the outskirts of Richards Bay.

Two siblings – Siyabonga ‘Nxele’ Ndimane and Malusi ‘Mjay’ Ndimane - are in eSwatini pending extradition while their brothers - Lindani and Lindokuhle - appeared in the dock on Thursday alongside three other implicated suspects.

The group was tracked down by police after one of the men opened a bank account and used the card on the same day of the murder near the Florida Road strip.

The getaway car allegedly connected to the murders had fake number plates and was stolen.

It was later discarded following a hit-and-run a month after the murders.

Another suspect who discarded the car was connected to the killings after buying airtime from a local shop a few metres from the car.

Other arrests were made using cellphone records that placed several of them in Florida Road on the day of the murder.

The suspects are expected back in court this week.
