CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will be filing a fresh court application today to compel the African National Congress (ANC) to cough up outstanding documentation related to its cadre deployment policy.

DA MP Leon Schreiber who has been heading the party’s mission made the announcement in Parliament on Friday, during a mini-debate on professionalising the public service.

Schreiber said the party is also filing a new promotion of access to information application for the ANC to also produce its cadre deployment records from its provincial and regional structures.

The DA said since the court compelled the ANC to hand over its cadre deployment records, it has been inundated with whistleblower accounts of improper appointments in the civil service.

Schreiber said his party’s mission is to expose these appointments, is far from over.

"The DA is filing fresh papers to hold ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, in contempt of court for failing to comply with the Constitutional Court’s order, that complete national cadre deployment records dating back to the first of january 2013, must be handed over."

But the ANC's Teliswa Mgweba defended the strategy saying problems only arise when legal processes in appointments are flouted.

"Political parties should be encouraged to have such discussions because that is likely to produce more considered outcomes than simply relying on the whims of individuals MPs."

She said by pursuing this matter, the DA only seeks to portray black people as incompetent.
