SANDF scraps speculation, opts for probe into mortar bomb that killed 2 soldiers in DRC
A mortar bomb landed inside one of the South African military bases on Wednesday, killing two soldiers, leaving three others injured.

JOHANNESBURG - Defence Minister Thandi Modise has conveyed her condolences to the families of two South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members who were deployed at a peace mission in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
A mortar bomb landed inside one of the South African military bases on Wednesday, leaving three others injured.

South African troops have been in the DRC as part of a Southern African Development Community to support the government in its efforts to fend off illegal armed groups in the country’s east.
SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini: “We can only speculate but we don’t want to speculate. We’ll have our investigators on the ground to determine all that surrounds a mortar landing inside our base.”
