CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Education Department said counselling is being provided for pupils and teachers at JG Meiring High School in Goodwood on Tuesday, following the stabbing of a pupil.

A grade 11 pupil was stabbed by an unknown suspect just outside school premises on Monday afternoon.
 
Following the incident, parents staged a protest outside the school on Tuesday morning.

They said there have been several incidents of violence involving pupils at the high school.

But the principal and the provincial Department of Education department have not responded to their concerns about their children’s safety.
 
A grade 10 pupil told Eyewitness News that her time at school is always filled with fear and anxiety.
