CAPE TOWN - International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor said that reports that the US Congress would be reviewing the relationship between South Africa and the United States was unfortunate.

Pandor was speaking at the humanitarian exhibition game between the South African Invitational team and the Palestinian national football team in Athlone on Sunday.

This comes after Washington announced that Congress was aiming to review the relationship between the United States and South Africa.

Pandor said that the US would be exercising its democratic rights.

"This is their democratic right to do. I believe we have a valuable and good relationship in trade and people to people exchange, and I don’t see why that should be harmed. The United States has often shared with us their belief in human rights in freedom and democracy. That is all that South Africa is upholding."

The international relations minister added that the world should be in support of South of Africa on the war in Gaza.

"We are a very courageous people and what we're doing is taking a moral stand on behalf of the world. The world should be standing with South Africa. It can not be correct that so many thousands of people are being killed every day, innocent people, who had no role in the attack by Hamas."
