JOHANNESBURG- A service delivery-related protest has brought the area of Ennerdale to a standstill on Monday morning.

Residents have barricaded several roads, including James Street and Lawley exit, with debris, blocking access in and out of the community.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said the protest was over ongoing water and electricity shortfalls.

The community is demanding the municipality to bring an end to the persistent outages that have affected areas including Lawley, Ekokotela, Lenasia, and Lakeview.

"It’s alleged that residents of Lawley are protesting over service delivery issues and the situation is a bit tense this morning," said JMPD's Xolani Fihla.

"Officers have been deployed, and they are clearing the roadway for traffic to flow. Expect heavy traffic disruptions as routes leaving Lawley and Ennerdale have been barricaded off."
