JOHANNESBURG - New kid on the block, Rise Mzansi, is set to picket outside the Cape Town City Hall ahead of Wednesday's Budget Speech over financial provisions for single mothers.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is set to table the highly anticipated budget before Parliament later in the day.

The party said the planned picket is a call for a tax relief regime for single mothers on essential items such as baby formula, diapers and even schooling.

Party chief organiser, Makashule Gana, said if the party was voted into power, their planned tax relief regime would be administered by the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

Party spokesperson Mabine Seabe: ''The General Household Survey by StatsSA shows that 44.1% of households are headed by single mothers. It is these single mothers who carry the child-rearing responsibilities and financial burden of care.''
