JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water said it had resumed pumping water to the Illovo Tower following a major pipe burst in Atholl.

The utility closed off water supply to the water tower on Thursday to repair a 600-millimetre pipe on the corner of Forrest and Pretoria roads.

It's understood the pipe burst on Wednesday, with Johannesburg Water struggling to repair it due to high water pressure in the area.

Johannesburg Water said while pumping had resumed, some residents were still experiencing low water pressure while the system recovers.

It said water tankers had been sent to areas that were still affected by Thursday’s closure of water supply to the Illovo Tower.

Areas including Illovo, Morningside, Rivonia, Benmore Gardens, Riverclub, and Hyde Park were hardest hit by the outage.

Some residents have taken to social media to express their frustration over the impact of this water outage.
