CAPE TOWN - An alleged gang member accused of the murder of a 12-year-old school girl from Mitchells Plain is expected to make his second appearance in court Wednesday.
Lorenzo Brown was arrested last Wednesday just hours before Firdous Kleinsmidt's funeral got underway at her family's Lentegeur home.
Firdous was shot and killed by a stray bullet on the premises of Leglaasi Nieyah Primary School in Beacon Valley the previous day.
Angry community leaders said police should have had an operational plan in place by now to put an end to the gang war in Beacon Valley that started at the end of last year.
The matter is on the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court roll for a formal bail application.
The State has indicated that it will oppose bail.
