JOHANNESBURG - Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu said the department would continue the work it was doing with slain Rand Water executive Teboho Joala to address water challenges in the City of Tshwane.

Joala was laid to rest in Pretoria on Sunday.

He was shot dead earlier this week at a shoe donation drive at a community hall in the south of Johannesburg, in full view of 70 learners who were part of the event.

Minister Mchunu said Joala was extremely committed to improving the state of water accessibility in the City of Tshwane.

He described Joala as a humble person who built close relationships with many of his colleagues.

He said the department would ensure that these projects were completed, in Joala’s honour.

The Minister added that his department would closely monitor developments in this case to ensure justice for Joala's killing.

"We have spoken to the Minister of Police [Bheki Cele] for this case to be added to the list of cases that are prioritised, and he agreed."
