JOHANNESBURG - The Cape Winelands District Municipality has assured residents that the fires that have been raging in the area remain contained.

This comes after a flare-up of the blaze was reported in Brandvlei on Friday.

The region has been battling a number of fires over the last two weeks, with emergency services struggling to contain the blaze for 11 days.

The municipality's spokesperson, Anesca Roodt, said that flare-ups were expected as a result of persistent hot weather conditions.

"No other significant flare-ups were reported overnight. Mopping-up operations are currently underway in all affected areas. Teams will continue to be vigilant and monitor the situation throughout the day."

Meanwhile, officials at the Overstrand District continue to monitor the fires, after the fires in the area were also extinguished.
