FINAL in-person voter registration weekend opens THIS WEEKEND!

Law enforcement is expected to keep a close eye on registration activities amid fears of renewed political tensions.

KZN has often been at the centre of political instability in the build-up to the national and provincial polls.

Despite politically motivated violence in previous years, there were no incidents reported during the first voter registration drive towards the end of last year, a trend KZN police said they would like to continue.

But provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said they would not let their guard down.

"Police in KwaZulu-Natal have put strategic security measures in place to ensure that the IEC registration weekend is free of criminal and other unlawful incidents. Police, some of them undercover, will be deployed to identified areas which presented few challenges during the previous registration weekend."

Netshiunda added that the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structures (PROFJOINTS) had been activated to help ramp up capacity.
