JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA accused the African National Congress (ANC) of lacking political willpower to address corruption, following the release of the latest Corruption Perception Index (CPI), which showed a 12-year low for South Africa.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party called for drastic action to be taken to end corruption.

Party leader Herman Mashaba claimed over R35 billion in corruption was uncovered during his tenure as Johannesburg’s executive mayor.

ActionSA seeks to increase the minimum sentence for those guilty of corruption in transactions exceeding R500,000 to 15 years imprisonment without the possibility of a fine or parole.

The party is also calling for the decommissioning of human intervention during procurement decision-making to reduce corruption.

“His government spent over R1 billion on the Zondo Commission, but, to date, has failed to prosecute state-capture crimes – this is the legacy that voters should judge Ramaphosa and the ruling party on.”

ActionSA called on citizens to use upcoming polls to vote out the ANC.
