JOHANNESBURG - Build One South Africa (BOSA) delivered a jobs plan as its central offering to South Africans ahead of the seventh democratic elections.

The vision, made up of four parts, was shared with the country by BOSA leader Mmusi Maimane at the launch of the party’s elections manifesto in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon.

Maimane’s blueprint for creating work opportunities includes growing the economy, reforming education, building a capable state, and creating a safe environment.

South Africa has one of the world’s highest unemployment rates, with its youth facing an even greater crisis, with over 40% of them being without jobs.

This is the focus of BOSA’s offering, which is aimed at rapidly growing the economy, creating millions of jobs, and upskilling young people.

BOSA committed to creating two million jobs over the next 5 years, should it be elected into power.

Maimane said the upcoming elections are about putting a job in every home.

“We’ve worked out that there are 18 million households, averaging 3.3 people per household, so therefore to put a job in every home, at an absolute minimum, will require at least two million new jobs.”

Maimane also stressed the importance of collaborating with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the private sector, as well as supporting ventures that will create more jobs in the country.
