JOHANNESBURG - One person has been arrested in connection with the building fire that killed two people and left at least four others injured in the Joburg CBD.

The building on Commissioner Street went up in flames in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving over 100 people displaced.

The City of Johannesburg said it's working to find temporary accommodation for those who have been affected.

Johannesburg's City Manager Floyd Brink said the case has been handed over to the police to conduct further investigations.

Brink has confirmed that a woman has been charged with arson.

He said the fire was not reported to officials but was detected through the cameras the city has installed across the CBD.

"Through our own systems we managed to detect and that's how we managed to deploy our teas and our fire engines."

Commissioner and Nugget Street were still closed off to traffic on Sunday.
