JOHANNESBURG - 2019 Rugby World Cup winner, Elton Jantjies, has been banned for four years from the sport after testing positive for a banned substance.
The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) confirmed the decision on Thursday after Jantjies first tested positive for clenbuterol in August last year.
Clenbuterol is a substance used by many bodybuilders to lose weight and produce muscle.
The 33-year-old has always maintained his innocence but did not exercise his right to have his case heard before an independent doping hearing panel.
The potentially career-ending ban is the latest in a string of controversies to plague the flyhalf.
In 2022, he was arrested and charged for malicious damage to property and contravening the Aviation Act after he lost it on an Emirates flight that landed at OR Tambo International Airport.
In November of the same year, it was also alleged that he was in a relationship with the Springbok team dietician.
