WSU students want accused who shot Sisonke Mbolekwa to be denied bail
Last week, Sisonke Mbolekwa was shot, allegedly by a university employee at the Mthatha campus, during protests over various issues including student accommodation.
MTHATHA - Students from the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) are calling on the Mthatha Magistrates Court to deny bail to the man accused of killing a student during a protest on campus.
Last week, Sisonke Mbolekwa was shot dead, allegedly by a university employee at the Mthatha campus, during protests over various issues, including student accommodation.
As the accused was set to make his first appearance in the dock, thousands of students from the Mthatha campus braved the rainy weather outside the court, demanding that the accused be kept behind bars.
Student leader, Themba Zikhala said: "Today [Tuesday], as Mthatha campus Walter Sisulu University students, we’ve come in solidarity and massive unity to demand that Mr Mampane must not get bail. That’s our call, we want justice to prevail and that we don’t need a student killed in our society, as we are protesting outside the court of Mthatha that Mr Mpanane must rot in jail."
