CAPE TOWN - Floor-length dresses, designer shoes and colourful outfits are the order of the day on the red carpet at the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Members of Parliament attending the annual event - have shown up in some of their best outfits to hear President Cyril Ramaphosa’s submissions.

Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver his State of the Nation Address at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Cape Town City Hall.

It’s a hive of activity on the red carpet as members of Parliament arrive in glitz and glamour for the State of the Nation Address.

But Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina is draped in IsiXhosa traditional attire - tailormade by a fashion designer in the Eastern Cape.

She says it pains her when the designer’s business is affected by the lack of water in the province.

"So that is why I’m so committed in making sure that I support women and local designers. But also, this is a woman who never went to school, but she’s a designer for years. It’s more than 20 years now that I’ve been wearing uVikkie."

Once all the glitz and glamour of the red carpet is done Ramaphosa will take to the podium.
