Kfm Mornings with Darren, Sherlin and Sibs chat about the increasing trend in teenagers fighting in malls, specifically the recent fights at Canal Walk and the Waterfront, in Cape Town.

A violent clash between two teenage girls erupted in Canal Walk on Saturday evening, 28 June, marking the latest in a surge of planned youth brawls in malls.

According to viral social media footage, security personnel intervened after the altercation, which drew crowds of cheering teens, filling up the mall.

The incident underscores a growing trend of organised teen violence dubbed ‘Fight Night’, where gatherings are coordinated via social media posters advertising ‘Meet and Greets’ – some explicitly promoting battles between social media content creators.

Authorities and mall officials are still investigating these cases, according to EWN's Vania Cloete Collison.

Is it the influence of social media? Peer pressure? Or does it come down to parenting?

"We can't have chaos in malls," believes Darren.

Kfm Mornings discuss the 'chaotic' incidents.

"Parents face this difficult situation now because you want to give your child privacy and let them know, 'I trust you'. But at what point do you stop keeping an eye on that and go: "You know what I am going to check your WhatsApps" - where's the line now"?
- Darren Simpson, Host - Kfm Mornings
"We're fighting for clout now..."
- Sherlin Barends, Co-Host - Kfm Mornings
"This sort of behaviour is revered now, how do we make it uncool?"
- Darren Simpson, Host - Kfm Mornings
