WATCH: Minecraft mischief in cinemas as fans take "chicken jockey" to a new level

For some, going to the cinema means quietly enjoying the movie while hearing the crunching of popcorn and slushie slurps in between.

BUT... going to the latest Minecraft movie might just be a little more exciting for some, disruptive for others and chaotic for most.

At screenings of the latest Minecraft movies globally and here in South Africa, barrages of popcorn are thrown into the air.

A teen in America even brought a live chicken to the cinema.

All this to celebrate the iconic phrase from the film: "Chicken jockey!”

If you know what this phrase means, you’re either a preteen, have accompanied one to a recent cinema screening of A Minecraft Movie or you're a Minecraft fan... so, you'll get it.

If you're none of the above, know that Warner Bros’ latest money-spinner is a movie adaptation of the Swedish game Minecraft, a prerequisite in the social lives of many children between the age of eight and 12.

The game enables children to explore and reconfigure a creative digital environment, accumulating resources in a world built from blocks.

A viral trend has encouraged audiences to wait for the onscreen moment cued by the character played by Jack Black. He spots the zombie-chicken combo and yells: “Chicken jockey!”

That's when audiences erupt into chaos, standing, cheering and hurling popcorn around the theatre.

In a video of one such incident in the States, a tween carrying a real-life chicken is paraded on the shoulders of a friend through cinema seats. At this point, the movie was shut down by the movie-house.

South Africa has not been left out of the frenzy...

A Kfm listener shared that things are "mad" at cinemas here in Cape Town as well. Her son was egged over the weekend and didn't mind it because #gees.

Of course, Kfm Mornings team had to talk about this one. Watch below:
