COVID-19 update: 16 mn Africans, less than 2% of the continent, fully vaccinated

World Health Organization regional director Matshidiso Moeti gave an update on the COVID-19 pandemic on the continent on 8 July. Moeti said that in total, there had been close to 5.7 million cases in Africa, with 146,000 people losing their lives to the virus. Moeti also said that less than 2% of Africans had been fully vaccinated, leaving millions more still vulnerable to infection and severe illness.
