I can see clearly now - Boeta Cassiem's cataracts operation a success
“I can see my shoes. I feel great.” One of the first words Boeta Cassiem said after his much-needed cataract operation on Saturday.
Cassiem, Cape Town’s famous ice cream seller, underwent the first of two operations sooner than expected, such was the generosity of people from across the country and overseas.
In early July, during an EWN investigation into the impact of the lockdown on the sports industry,
Boeta Cassiem explained how he was dealing with no income from his ice cream cart due to the suspension of sport and the challenges he faced with his poor eyesight because of cataracts.
On learning that Cassiem couldn’t afford the operation, South African and international sports fans rallied to raise the necessary funds.
