Zimbabwe doctors defy court, enter 43rd day of strike
Zimbabwe's labour court ruled the action 'unlawful' on Friday and ordered the medics back to their wards within 48 hours.
The ruling by High Court judge Clement Phiri was in response to an urgent application filed by the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association.
Rights groups accused the government of abducting activists in the lead-up to planned opposition protests last month when the government also denied responsibility.
Zimbabwe’s public sector doctors went on strike on Tuesday after the government failed to meet their demands.
On Monday, the authorities suspended more than 500 doctors for refusing to return to work.
The southern African nation is short of US dollars, the currency it adopted in 2009, causing price spikes and shortages of basic goods, medicines and fuel.
