Water restored to Tshwane while Jo’burg residents warned to brace for water cut
The City of Tshwane says its reservoirs are improving following supply disruptions earlier this week.
Supply to certain areas in Johannesburg looks set to be disrupted from next Monday as Rand Water works on a pipe that supplies their Vereeniging water purification plant.
Some communities in Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Joburg were without water for extended periods, getting little to no help from their respective municipalities and Rand Water.
The Vaal Dam supplies water to Vanderbijlpark, Bophelong, Tshepiso and Boipatong. Residents have taken to social media to express dissatisfaction and dismay with not having had water for the past week.
The utility is expected to cut off supply for over 10 hours in some parts of Soweto and the City of Joburg on Tuesday and Thursday.
Residents in Naledi Lusaka and Doornkop in Soweto as well as communities in Tshepisong can expect their taps to run dry for more than 10 hours during the interruptions.

Joburg Water has on Thursday been instructed by the bulk water-supplier to implement restrictions of between 20% to 45% of its water supply to some customers.
Hotels, retirement villages, and schools were affected by the seven-day long water outage.
The City said load shedding of this severity would likely constrain its ability to provide water supply in the reticulation system across Cape Town.
Municipality’s Mayor Mzukisi Mpahlwa said repair work was completed on Friday.
