    Crunch time for Biden as Congress debates historic agenda

    The House and Senate are moving toward votes on legislation dealing with infrastructure and social programs worth almost $5 trillion while also averting a government shutdown on Friday and a looming debt default.

    Senate confirms first Biden ambassador but others blocked

    Speaking to reporters on August 2, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that more than 65 nominees were awaiting confirmation for "critical national security positions" and hoped for their approval before the recess. But the Senate adjourned until September 13.

    Biden's COVID rescue plan grinds toward Senate approval

    Negotiations in the Senate had frozen the chamber's action for more than 10 hours on Friday, before the Democrats reached a compromise with moderate Senator Joe Manchin, who had balked at the scale of the benefits.

    Trump acquitted, again, by US Senate

    The five-day trial saw Democratic prosecutors argue -- bolstered by dramatic video of the 6 January riot -- that Trump betrayed his oath by whipping up his supporters into storming Congress in a last-ditch attempt to cling to power.
