Toyota recalling 1.43m hybrids worldwide for air bag issue
The recall covers 2010-2012 vehicles with air bag inflators that could have a small crack in a weld.
The global recall involves Toyota's RAV4 SUV model produced between July 2005 and August 2014.
The winner could enjoy years of domination if their tech is adopted as a global standard.
The total about 2.7 million are in North America, 1.2 million in Europe and 600,000 in japan.
About 2,500 jobs will be affected when the plant stops building cars in 2017, the company said.
The automaker expects to post 2.4 trillion yen profit this year.
The newly appointed CEO will be the first woman to lead a global automaker.
Toyota's groupwide total includes sales at affiliates Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd and Hino Motors Ltd.
