The man accused of killing eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk was arrested in Cradock in the Eastern Cape about a week after the child's disappearance in February 2020 and led police to her body in a stormwater pipe along the N1 near Worcester.
The suspect had been initially accused of just kidnapping and murdering 8-year-old Tazne van Wyk but he's now been slapped with a total of 20 charges.
Fifty-four-year-old Moehydien Pangaker, who was out on parole, was arrested in Cradock in the Eastern Cape, a week after Tazne van Wyk went missing and led police to her body.
The Department of Correctional Service briefed the Justice and Correctional Services Committee on Friday on the parole system and its challenges.
The party's provincial spokesperson on community safety, Reagen Allen, said he contacted the Justice and Correctional Services Department to request a briefing on apparent failures in this system.
Mohydin Pangaker, who led detectives to her body, has a string of previous convictions.
