Mkhize aides fight back in Digital Vibes scandal
Former Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize's associates Tahera Mather and Naadhira Mitha are fighting back against corruption allegations and have enlisted the help...
While Zweli Mkhize resigned as health minister after initially denying any wrongdoing in the awarding of the irregular contract to Digital Vibes, a number of officials are still facing disciplinary hearings and possible criminal prosecution.
The SIU found that Digital Vibes scored a contract with the national Health Department through irregular procurement procedures. In some instances, officials manipulated the system and lied to national Treasury.
It looks like Digital Vibes boss and former Health Minister Zweli Mkhize's associate Tahera Mather turned the communications company's bank card into a personal piggy bank.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has insisted that he was not involved in the awarding of the contract nor did he have any links with those who benefited.
But the head of the corruption busting unit Andy Mothibi said he can’t disclose the outcome of the probe just yet.
The investigation was looking into how Mkhize's longtime personal assistant, Tehera Mather and a close associate, Naadhira Mitha, allegedly benefitted from COVID-19 contracts worth R82 million issued by the Health Department.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize’s former spokesperson Tahera Mather is one of the people who scored consultancy jobs from Digital Vibes, according to a 'Daily Maverick' report.
