DUT students return to court on arson, attempted murder charges
The students allegedly set a university building on fire and are also accused of trying to burn a security guard during violent protests in September last year.
Msizi Mbutho (29) appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Wednesday after he was arrested on Monday.
Sandile Ndlovu was robbed and stabbed in the head in a lecture room at the institution in September.
This after students at University of Zululand in KwaZulu-Natal held several demonstrations to highlight security and accommodation concerns at the institution.
Ndlovu was stabbed two weeks ago in a lecture hall at the Steve Biko Campus and passed away at the weekend.

This followed a series of protests at DUT by students with renewed calls for better safety measures at the institution.
Equal Education has appealed to Basic Education to adopt a national scholar transport policy urgently.
