South African businessman Richard Maponya died at the age of 99 on Monday morning following a short illness. Maponya was dubbed as the ‘father of black retail' in South Africa. He developed the Maponya Mall in Soweto and was involved in other business work in the country.
Maponya was passionate about business and developing skills in areas that were largely neglected.
In 2007, Maponya made history, opening the Maponya Mall in Soweto which holds more than 200 stores.
