The public broadcaster announced earlier this week that it would forge ahead with retrenchments that could potentially affect more than 400 full-time staff in a bid to ensure the entity’s sustainability.
The SABC said about 400 people would be impacted, which was less than the originally projected figure of 600.
"At the outbreak of the pandemic, the firm announced that it would suspend any job reductions," the spokesperson said. "The firm has made a decision to move forward with a modest number of layoffs."
