Parents will soon be able to appeal pupil placement, says GED MEC Lesufi
Lesufi said that some parents who were not happy with where their children had been admitted would be given a chance to appeal.
On Sunday, parents whose children had not been placed were notified by SMS to come to district offices but Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesuf said it was sent prematurely.
The number of unplaced grade 1 and 8 pupils has come down from around 28,000 at the start of the 2018 academic year.
MEC Panyaza Lesufi says more than 2,000 pupils who had not been registered have been placed over the past few days.
The department’s Jessica Shelver says officials have been able to accommodate most of the learners.
The department says it's working to ensure that these pupils are in a classroom by the end of the week.
MEC Panyaza Lesufi says as of Tuesday, 3900 grade 1 pupils and 3,000 grade 8s who applied online were still without schools.
Many grade one and eight pupils are still hoping to be allocated a school in the province.
The dept says with plans to build a school monthly, it's cautiously optimistic about the prospect of a smooth placement process.
Parents are demanding answers from the department, claiming they applied on time for their children in grades one & eight.
A small percentage of the more than one million school-going children have not been placed.
