ICC prosecutor heads to Sudan to discuss Bashir case
The toppled autocrat is wanted by the ICC on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity in the western region of Darfur.
The court’s chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said in December there was enough evidence for an investigation into thousands of killings - but asked the court to rule on whether it had the jurisdiction over the Palestinian territories.
Bolton said on Monday that if such an investigation was launched, the Trump administration would consider banning ICC judges and prosecutors from entering the US.
Fatou Bensouda said in a statement “any new alleged crime committed in the context of the situation in Palestine may be subjected to my Office’s scrutiny”.
Since joining the ICC she’s been at pains to deny that the body’s singling out African human rights violators.
Fatou Bensouda said she was left with no choice as she had to shift resources to other urgent cases.
