Eskom manages to avoid unplanned outages
The utility has managed to avoid load shedding for several months now.
Acting Eskom CEO Brian Molefe looks at the state of the power grid a day after he revealed Eskom’s winter plan of limited load shedding & ramping up maintenance.
Over 40,000 households were initially affected by the outages on Thursday.
This has helped stabilise the power supply system and could help prevent load shedding.
The parastatal has been flipping the switch over the past few months as it battles to keep up with demand.
The initiative will first be tested in Aspen Hills, Gauteng, before being introduced to other areas.
Four executives including the CEO have been asked to step aside as an inquiry takes place.

The region currently has a peak demand of 54,000 MW against generation capacity of 51,000 MW.
The utility says its main priority is to ensure a reliable power grid in the coming years.
The power giant says the load shedding experienced earlier this year isn’t expected to return this winter.
