The City of Cape Town said that the expenditure on security for land invasions was justified.
Over the past three months, the city has seen a sharp increase in illegal land invasions and has recorded 115 protests.
City of Cape Town Human Settlements MMC Malusi Booi said that they would continue to act against any form of land occupation in the city.
Mayco member for Human Settlements, Malusi Booi, said that attempts to illegally occupy land, municipality projects or community facilities included several orchestrated attempts in Mfuleni and Khayelitsha.
