Critical discussions have been taking place between mango and SAA Technical after it emerged that the commercial airline had failed to pay the SAA subsidiary for maintaining its fleet.
The hard, nationwide lockdown worsened problems for operators like Mango airlines, which ended up defaulting on its payments to creditors.
This comes after South African Airways (SAA) Technical suspended its services to Mango due to non-payment.
South African airline Mango said its currently in discussion with SAA technical in a bid to keep its planes operating.
The department said over the last few weeks, more than 10 entities have shown interest in the national carrier along with Air Chefs, SAA Technical and Mango Airlines.
These included Accra, Hong Kong, Port Elizabeth, East London, and Durban.
The national carrier earlier announced it's decision to cancel some domestic and international flights due to low demand and to save money.
Two weeks ago, reports emerged detailing how a Mango aircraft experienced a fault while travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town, allegedly due to a counterfeit part fitted by SAA’s technical team.
This comes after the _Sunday Times_ on Sunday reported that a Mango Boeing nosedived during a flight between Johannesburg and Cape Town in September.
Last Wednesday and Thursday, in particular, passengers saw flights delayed throughout the day.
It was announced on Wednesday that oversight for SAA has been transferred back from the Finance Ministry to that of Public Enterprises, now under the leadership of Pravin Gordhan.
