Doctor Makgabo Manamela was involved in the decision to move Life Esidimeni patients to illegal and ill-equipped NGOs which lead to the deaths of 143 mentally ill people.

Dr Makgabo Manamela also says that the project gave clinicians no choice but to sign discharge forms.

Dr Makgabo Manamela is the former director of mental health in Gauteng and was one of the key players in the execution of the disastrous marathon project in which 143 mentally ill people died.
Makgabo Manamela began testifying at the arbitration hearings on Monday after a three-hour attempt to have her testimony postponed.
Earlier on Monday, Makgabo Manamela tried to apply for a postponement but her application was denied by retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke.
Former director of mental health in Gauteng Dr Makgabo Manamela’s legal team had asked for a postponement of her testimony, saying she needed more time to prepare.
Dr Makgabo Manamela was a key figure in the Esidimeni project and was subpoenaed to testify today.
