Typhoon Molave hit villages in the central provinces on Wednesday, reportedly killing two people as it knocked down trees, tore roofs off homes and brought heavy rain to an area already badly affected by weeks of flooding.
Officials said the deluge destroyed between 80 and 100 homes in the hilly, rural area on Tuesday night, and the Red Cross had earlier put the number of missing at about 50.
Pouring rain, electricity cuts and rough roads are preventing heavy machinery from accessing the area in Sukabumi regency, agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.
The East African nation, dubbed a country of a thousand hills, has recently been affected by landslides because of heavy downpours flattening houses on mountain slopes.
The mountainous highway where the accident occurred winds between the cities of Pasto and Tumaco in Narino province, along the border with Ecuador.
