Retired ConCourt judge Kriegler wants WC judge president Hlophe suspended
The Judicial Conduct Tribunal found Hlophe guilty of gross misconduct.
The ruling against Hlophe came more than a decade after Constitutional Court justices, Chris Japhta and Bess Nkabinde, claimed that Hlophe approached them to influence a decision on a case involving former President Jacob Zuma and French arms company, Thales.
A complaint was laid against Hlophe by Justices Jafta and Nkabinde that he had approached them to improperly influence their decision on the pending case involving former President Jacob Zuma and French arms company Thales.
In 2008, justices reported to the JSC that Judge Hlophe had approached Justice Bess Nkabinde and Justice Chris Jafta and attempted to improperly influence them in a pending case regarding Jacob Zuma and the company Thint.
Justice John Hlophe said that he could not have been on a mission to influence any Constitutional Court judge as he would have had to know where they stood in the Jacob Zuma matter to do so.
The tribunal follows a 2008 complaint by judges of the apex court who accused Hlophe of improperly trying to influence two of their colleagues in a pending case regarding former President Jacob Zuma and arms manufacturer Thint in the arms deal case.
Hlophe is accused of trying to interfere in cases involving Jacob Zuma in 2008.
The judges don’t want to be part of the tribunal dealing with Judge John Hlophe’s conduct.
A decision has been made that a tribunal will continue with its investigation into John Hlophe.
