Islamist attackers launched a car bomb and gun attack on a busy hotel and adjacent restaurant in the Somali capital, police said.
Kenyan troops struck a group of al-Shabaab fighters in the west of the country, near the Kenyan border.
The strike targeted the militants training camp, a facility about 210 km north of Mogadishu.
An attacker or attackers hurled the grenade at students on the campus at Dilla University.
The attackers targeted a small restaurant at lunch hour that is popular with government officials.
Reports by Daily Nation newspaper said that the government has frozen the accounts of 86 individuals.
Militant group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, which lasted several hours.
Officials said the attackers were defeated by Somali security forces and members of the AU force.

At least 15 people have been killed after Al Shabaab bombers struck a Mogadishu restaurant.
